#King Oyo Funeral

The head of the Babiito royal clan (Omusuuga), Charles Kayondo Kamurasi, has announced that the coronation and enthronement ceremony for the newly selected Omukama of Tooro, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, will take place on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal.

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has refuted claims by Tooro Queen Mother Best Kemigisa that traditional royal guards were withdrawn and the palace placed under house arrest, clarifying that military deployments were reinforced purely to guarantee security against regional threats during King Oyo’s state mourning.

The Minister of Local Government, Hon. Barugahara Balaam, has urged the people of Tooro Kingdom to maintain peace and adhere to traditional succession procedures as Parliament pays tribute to the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
